As of Monday, November 11, the Sidney Borum, Jr. Health Center is open in its new space at 142 Berkeley Street, the home of Fenway Health’s South End location. Read more here.

The Sidney Borum, Jr. Health Center, affectionately known as the Borum, is a program of Fenway Health that provides safe, non-judgmental care for young people ages 12–29 who may not feel comfortable going anywhere else. No one is turned away – we’ll do whatever it takes to help you.

The Borum is affiliated with Beth Israel Lahey Health and with Boston Children’s Hospital. It is licensed as a health center and mental health clinic by the Department of Public Health.

If you are younger than 12 or older than 29, you can still get affirming, excellent care at our other locations. Learn more about our Primary Care services.

Who was Sidney Borum, Jr.?

Sidney W. Borum, Jr. was an African-American HIV/AIDS activist and educator who worked with adolescents and other young people at risk for HIV transmission. He advocated for widespread condom distribution to help prevent HIV infections and worked to establish programs to provide medical care for uninsured people living with HIV. During the height of the epidemic, Borum helped to found the Boston Living Center and Positive Directions and then worked for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s HIV/AIDS Bureau. He died of AIDS in 1992; the Sidney Borum, Jr. Health Center is named in his memory.
